Arsenal are the best team in the Premier League when it comes to set-pieces.
Mikel Arteta has built an incredible squad over the years, and this Gunners side are capable of hurting their opponents in multiple different ways.
One of their biggest threats in every game comes from corners. Nicolas Jover’s brilliance has taken them to a whole new level, and that won them the derby against Fulham on Saturday.
But what does Arsenal’s record from corners actually look like since they started challenging for the Premier League title?
How many goals have Arsenal scored from corners since 2022/23 in the Premier League?
Arsenal have been contenders to win the Premier League title in each of the last three seasons.
The Gunners were first involved in a title race under Arteta in the 2022/23 campaign. They were incredible that season, but a William Saliba injury in the final weeks cost them.
Arsenal finished second that campaign, and the same happened in the next two years as well.
The one thing that has been constant at Arsenal in that period is their threat from set-pieces, especially corner kicks.
Jover has transformed the club in that department, and the key stat behind it puts Arsenal in a league of their own.
Since the start of the 2022/23 season, the North Londoners have scored 50 goals from corners in the Premier League – more than any other club.
Tottenham are second on the list with 34, with Liverpool and West Ham below them having scored 32 and 29 goals from corners respectively.
Mikel Arteta explains why set-piece goals are so important for Arsenal
At the same stage last season, Arsenal had scored three goals from corners. This term, they have managed seven.
That is an incredible improvement, which deserves enormous praise. But the Gunners have only been receiving criticism and are getting ridiculed – not just from the usual pundits and rival fans but from certain managers as well.
We’re sure Arteta doesn’t care about what people like Arne Slot think about his side’s goals, but the Arsenal manager perfectly explained why set-pieces are so important after the win over Fulham.
He said, as relayed on HaytersTV: “Great (that we are scoring from corners), because obviously we generate so many set pieces, so you have to start from there.
“And against these low blocks, when they don’t really want to drop and commit that many players there, we have another opportunity to put the players that we want in the position that we want, with the role that we want, and we need to exploit that.
“We could have exploited it today in different ways. At the end, it was a set piece. So, more than welcome.”
