After Gabriel starred on international duty, the defender returned to North London, but his return to domestic action was cut short.
Just 15 minutes into Arsenal’s clash with Fulham at the Emirates, the Brazilian was forced off due to injury, clutching his hamstring and heading straight down the tunnel.
A round of applause masked the anxiety inside the Emirates as Gabriel hobbled off the pitch, with the Champions League meeting against Real Madrid just one week away.

Bukayo Saka’s return to matchday action was meant to be a celebratory occasion however, Mikel Arteta was unable to escape Arsenal’s horrible injury record this season.
As expected, Arsenal fans couldn’t hide their fear when Gabriel pulled up after a sprint, with many taking to social media to express their concern.
“This season is the most cursed season of all time,” a fan said, a thought that was echoed by others.
“Saka comes back from a hamstring. Gabriel gets injured with a hamstring. Our luck is horrid,” and, “Get a top 3 player this season back and another top 3 player blows his hamstring out the same game.”
Other supporters reacted by trying to remain positive, admitting that at this point, Arsenal just have to ‘laugh’ at their luck.
“Gabriel Hammy. You just got to laugh in pain at the moment.”
“Bin the season,” was a cry from another fan, as others started to preview next week’s opening leg against Real Madrid.
“Kiwior against Real Madrid. Saka is back. Gabriel is down. What’s this curse this season?”
Jakub Kiwior replaced Gabriel on the night against Fulham, and fans weren’t relieved by the substitution, to say the least.
“Kiwior vs Mbappe. Season over. What horrific luck we have had this year. Gabriel just rested too.”
With Kai Havertz undergoing surgery on his hamstring after Saka’s blow in December, Arsenal fans have seen enough of hamstring issues this season.
“Gabriel hamstring. Season over!”
Gabriel is crucial ahead of Real Madrid
What Arsenal don’t need to do right now is think the worst before a diagnosis; however, such is near-impossible with Real Madrid around the corner.
If there’s any player Arteta wouldn’t want to lose ahead of the tie, it’s Gabriel, who, alongside William Saliba, forms the base of Arsenal’s spine.
Gabriel and Saliba’s partnership has been the foundation of the Gunners’ success since 2022/23, making his injury scare quite the horror.
An update on the Brazilian’s fitness could be make or break for Arsenal, who are at their limit when it comes to injuries this term.
