Arsenal travel to the south coast to take on Southampton in their final game of the Premier League season on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners will be hoping to secure second place against the Saints, and will do so if they manage to avoid defeat against the already-relegated side.

A loss at St. Mary’s could see Manchester City overtake Mikel Arteta’s men if the north-west outfit beat Fulham at Craven Cottage, although only if there is an eight-goal swing.

Arsenal beat Newcastle 1-0 last week, courtesy of a well-struck goal from Declan Rice, and Arteta will be hoping his side can repeat this triumph by securing all three points in a serene manner against Southampton.

As for the Saints, they have very little to play for after ensuring they won’t finish as the Premier League’s worst ever team by securing a point against Manchester City a few weeks ago.

However, prospective new manager Will Still may be in the stands, potentially motivating some of the south coast outfit’s players to impress their new coach.

Arsenal injury news and team updates

Arsenal will be without long-term absentees Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu for their Premier League swansong.

Jurrien Timber will also miss the game after undergoing surgery on his ankle in midweek.

Arteta will also be without William Saliba, who sustained a hamstring injury against Newcastle last week.

This is likely to mean that Riccardo Calafiori starts as a centre-back for the first time for Arsenal in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Kai Havertz could be in line for his first start after returning from his lengthy injury lay-off last week against the Magpies.

Southampton injury news and team updates

Southampton have a few injury issues to contend with.

Kyle Walker-Peters faces a late fitness test to determine his availability, with the full-back suffering from a ‘nasty illness’ (via Premier Injuries).

Meanwhile, star centre-back Jan Bednarek won’t feature in the game and won’t return until the start of pre-season due to a knee injury.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis will miss the clash with a foot issue, as will Albert Gronbaek Erlykke, who has an achilles injury.
