Steven Gerrard says why Bukayo Saka was ‘immense’ during Arsenal v PSG despite being taken off

Bukayo Saka was left heartbroken again as Arsenal lost out on winning the Champions League by the narrowest of margins in Budapest.

Saka could only look on as Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes missed penalties to cost Arsenal the win and end the season on a low note.

The England winger wasn’t at his best at all in terms of attacking play against PSG and in the end, he was taken off by Mikel Arteta in the second half.

However, while Saka didn’t last the full game, former England skipper Steven Gerrard pointed out why he had actually been brilliant for the Gunners.

Bukayo Saka told he was ‘immense’ for Arsenal v PSG

There was a time when Bukayo Saka would play every single minute of every game.

Now, though, Mikel Arteta will rest his star man if needs be and in fairness, Noni Madueke was good when he came on to replace him.

Still, according to Steven Gerrard, it was Saka’s defensive work that did the trick and deserved praise.

“Saka gets a lot of credit going the other way with the ball at his feet and his crosses, but he’s been immense out of possession,” Gerrard said on TNT.

“He’s been selfless in doing a job for his team.”

This is the second time Saka has had to endure penalty shootout heartbreak.

Indeed, he was one of the players who missed when England lost the Euro 2020 final against Italy at Wembley.

With that in mind, he might actually be able to help Eze and Gabriel through his own experiences.
