Viktor Gyokeres was subbed off at half-time of Arsenal’s Premier League game against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
The Swede gave the Gunners the lead after just 14 minutes, nodding home from close range following a Declan Rice corner.
Producing an excellent first-half display, Gyokeres will have been gutted that he wasn’t able to build on this performance in the second period.
Mikel Arteta took the striker off at the break, introducing Mikel Merino in his place, prompting many to speculate whether he’d sustained an injury.
It’s now been confirmed that Gyokeres was indeed substituted due to a muscular injury.
The news was confirmed by Arteta in a post-match interview.
“In the first half was one of the best he’s played with us,” Arteta told BBC Sport.
“He felt something muscular, so we have to wait to learn the extent of that.”

Viktor Gyokeres was Arsenal’s best player in the first half against Burnley
Gyokeres was outstanding in the opening 45 minutes, arguably producing his best performance in an Arsenal shirt thus far.
The Swede not only opened the scoring, but was exceptional with his all-round performance, showcasing some of the attributes he has outside of putting the ball in the back of the net.
He consistently ran the channels, providing the Gunners with an out-ball throughout, while his hold-up and combination play were immaculate.
He finished the game having had 17 touches in one half, significantly more than he usually manages.
