Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has admitted that one moment during his old club’s game against Atletico Madrid scared him.

The Gunners continued their terrific run in the Champions League by smashing four past Diego Simeone’s side at the Emirates.

Gabriel Magalhaes opened the scoring for the hosts, and his compatriot, Gabriel Martinelli, doubled that lead just a few minutes later. Viktor Gyokeres then scored a brace to seal a comprehensive win.

However, before the goals, Arsenal suffered a big scare.

Thierry Henry admits Julian Alvarez’s shot ‘scared’ him during Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid

Arsenal were the better team for large parts of the game against Atletico Madrid.

Mikel Arteta’s side started brilliantly, and although the visitors got better as the first half went on, they didn’t do much to threaten David Raya in goal.

After the break, former Manchester City star Julian Alvarez, who was Atleti’s most impressive player, struck a fierce shot from outside the box.

Everyone at the Emirates felt that it was on its way to the top corner, but the ball hit the crossbar and bounced back into play.

That was a huge let-off for Arsenal. Even Thierry Henry, who was ‘scared’ by the strike, admitted that the game could’ve been different had that gone in.

He said on CBS Sports in their post-match show: “[The start to the second half] was really, really, really crazy.

“It started with me being scared, in all fairness, because if you let the big man Julian Alvarez be able to turn around the box like he’s going to do now when he’s going to receive the ball, now, I thought that was going to go in and we got saved by the crossbar.

“He loves that one, he can bend it well, as we all know, and it would have been maybe a different second half.”

Julian Alvarez’s missed opportunity highlights Arsenal’s major strength

Arsenal kept yet another clean sheet when they hosted Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

That’s now their ninth shutout of the season in just 12 games, which is the best record across Europe’s top-five leagues.

Alvarez’s shot was the closest Atletico Madrid came to scoring. It was scary, as Henry said, but the fact that the best chance of the game for the visitors came from outside the box highlights just how strong Arsenal’s defence is.

That gives them the edge over every team in the world, and it is why they are one of the favourites to win the Premier League and Champions League this season.
