Unai Emery says there’s one thing he simply cannot ‘understand’ after Arsenal thrash Aston Villa 4-1

Unai Emery was far from happy after Arsenal beat Aston Villa 4-1.

The Spaniard cut a frustrated figure on the touchline for large parts of the second half, and his mood didn’t change after the final whistle either.

In fact, Emery didn’t even shake Mikel Arteta’s hand after the game and claimed later that he couldn’t wait outside in the cold.

In his post-match interview, the former Arsenal manager raised another issue, this time with the Premier League.

Be honest. What was your immediate reaction to seeing Unai Emery snub a handshake with Mikel Arteta?

Unai Emery says he cannot understand why Aston Villa had to play Arsenal twice so soon

No team is ever too happy with the Premier League fixture list.

Managers often slam the congestion, and that is a very valid point, while some others have a problem with how many difficult games they have to play consecutively.

Arsenal had the toughest start to the season among any team in the Premier League, but Mikel Arteta did not complain once, nor did the players.

Even when the Gunners played five games in 13 days that included clashes against Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Brentford and Aston Villa, nobody said a word.

Arsenal lost that final game to Villa, but they got their revenge on Tuesday night. However, Unai Emery has had a go at the Premier League for making his side face the North Londoners twice in the same month.

He told Aston Villa’s social channels after the game: “Of course, I don’t understand why we are playing the day 19 against one team that we played in the first half of the season, but we are going to play against Nottingham in the second part of the season two times and we are going to play on Saturday.”

Unai Emery embarrassed himself against Arsenal

Before the game on Tuesday night, Emery had never lost against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium as a visiting manager.

The Spaniard has somehow always caused problems for the Gunners, but his streak came to an end as Arteta’s men smashed Aston Villa 4-1.

Always seen as a classy manager, Emery embarrassed himself by not shaking Arteta’s hand after the game and then accusing the Arsenal boss of not coming to him.

Imagine you are Unai Emery. How would you respond after hearing 60,000 people chant this to you?

Is this why he didn't shake Arteta's hand?😂

To add to that, his complaints about the scheduling are ridiculous. Every team has to play each other twice, so it should not matter that one of them faces the other twice in a few weeks.

This is not a good look for Emery, but Arsenal don’t have to worry about him anymore in the Premier League, which is a good thing.
