Arsenal fans welcomed Aaron Ramsdale back to the Emirates when Southampton came to town.
The Gunners were made to work hard by the Saints on Saturday afternoon. They couldn’t get on the score sheet in the first half and ended up conceding first in the second.
However, goals from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka sealed the win for Mikel Arteta’s side, who remain just a point off the top of the Premier League table.
Ramsdale’s return to the Emirates wasn’t a successful one, but he will remember this day for a long time for several reasons.
Arsenal and Southampton fans combine to sing for Aaron Ramsdale
Ramsdale is still adored by Arsenal fans.
The Englishman spent three years at the Emirates and was even the undisputed number one until September last year, when David Raya took his place.
Ramsdale had a difficult time last season and decided to leave in the summer. It was sad to see him go, but it was the best move for all parties.
The return to the Emirates on Saturday afternoon was an emotional one. Ramsdale was even reduced to tears when he was applauded by the home supporters before kickoff.
That wasn’t all – Arsenal fans showed a lot of love during half-time and towards the end of the game too. The latter was really special.
Sky Sports reveal that after Southampton fans in the away end started singing ‘England’s number one’ to Ramsdale, the rest of the stadium filled with Arsenal fans joined in and sang their hearts out.
That must have felt good.

Three things happened with Ramsdale after the full-time whistle
Ramsdale would’ve loved to have caused an upset at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
The Englishman has a lot of love for Gooners, but we’re sure he would’ve wanted to prove a point against his old club, manager and fans.
Unfortunately for him, he ended up on the losing side, but three things happened after the game that would’ve made him feel really good.
First, Raya came up to Ramsdale and gave him a big hug. Arteta did the same soon after, showing his appreciation for his former number one.
Finally, Ramsdale received a standing ovation from the Clock End after he handed over his shirt to a Saints fan and then signed one for a young Arsenal supporter.
