Arsenal host Wigan Athletic in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Gunners are the most successful side in the competition’s history, and Mikel Arteta would love to win it again at the end of this season.

Arsenal will, unsurprisingly, be the favourites to beat Wigan, who sacked their manager Ryan Lowe just a few days ago.

Former Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan will take charge of the Latics at the Emirates Stadium now, and he has sought some help to get the better of the Gunners on Sunday.

Wigan manager calls Brentford boss Keith Andrews to help him beat Arsenal

Keith Andrews’ Brentford just secured an impressive 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

The Gunners were nowhere near good enough at the Gtech Community Stadium, and many feel they were lucky to come away without defeat.

Andrews, who said what his side would do before the game and then delivered, deserves enormous praise for the way he set his side up against Arteta’s men.

Arsenal are likely to find it much easier against Wigan, who are 22nd in League One and are currently without a permanent manager.

Whelan will have to find a way to hurt Arsenal, and he has revealed that a phone call was made to Andrews to find out how to stop the Gunners.

When asked if he would contact the Brentford boss, he said on the Off the Ball podcast: “It’s the first thing I’ve done this morning.

“Especially with him and [fellow former Irish footballer, now Brentford’s set-piece coach] Stephen Rice on the set plays – we’re all pulling in the same direction.”

Arsenal shouldn’t have many problems against Wigan Athletic

The magic of the FA Cup has taught big teams like Arsenal that they should never underestimate lower league sides in this competition.

However, the Gunners should be convinced that they can blow Wigan away on Sunday.

Arteta is expected to make a number of changes, but Arsenal’s starting line-up will still likely feature massive names like Kepa Arrizabalaga, Gabriel Jesus, Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli.

Even Bukayo Saka could start on the right wing to get back to full fitness after missing a few games due to a hip injury.

If those players even play at half their level, they should be able to get the win for Arsenal.
