Arsenal made a number of exciting signings this summer, but as ever, the Gunners’ gain was another side’s loss.
Indeed, while Arsenal fans were very excited about each of their signings this summer, on the opposite side there were clubs and fanbases who weren’t happy about losing star players.
Brentford fans weren’t happy to lose Christian Norgaard after a difficult summer of departures, while Sporting CP made life difficult for Viktor Gyokeres before his move to Arsenal.
Cristhian Mosquera also had a strange time when leaving Valencia as the club threw him under the bus somewhat with their statement upon his departure, writing:
“Valencia CF and Arsenal FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Cristhian Mosquera to the English club.
“This decision comes as a result of the clear and unequivocal desire expressed by the player, who has made it clear he did not wish to renew his contract with Valencia CF and expressed his exclusive intention to join Arsenal FC.”
Inevitably, Valencia fans weren’t too pleased about this, and speaking to Cadena SER, Mosquera has been discussing his move to Arsenal, and he says he does have a regret about how things ended at Valencia.

Cristhian Mosquera has Valencia regret
Mosquera spoke about leaving Valencia.
The defender says he wishes things were different after leaving his former club, suggesting that the statement the La Liga side put out didn’t do him any favours.
“It’s clear that when you leave what has been your home, you would like everything to be a little different. Both the statement and the things that have come out,” Mosquera said.
“I’m never going to speak badly of Valencia because I’m a Valencianista and it’s a club that has given me everything. I would have liked it to have been a little different, but sometimes in football you have to look out for yourself, and there will be parts that you understand and others that you don’t.
“I’m calm because every time I put on the Valencia shirt, I gave everything.”
Cristhian Mosquera’s stats on Arsenal debut
Mosquera may have regrets about his departure from Valencia, but his move to Arsenal looks set to be a big success.
Indeed, Mosquera earned praise after his debut against Manchester United at the weekend, and the stats back up what was a solid performance from the defender.
| Cristhian Mosquera’s stats on Arsenal debut | |
| Tackles | 4 |
| Clearances | 3 |
| Pass completion rate | 92% |
| Blocked shots | 2 |
It is a shame that Mosquera left Valencia in these circumstances, but the most important thing now is for the centre-back to carve out his own legacy at Arsenal.
At just £13m, Arsenal look to have got a great deal here.
