Eamon Dunphy has claimed that Granit Xhaka has completely changed since he left Arsenal for Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
The Swiss international decided to end his seven-year stay at the Emirates last year. He joined Leverkusen in the summer and has been one of their best players this season. Xhaka has been receiving some much-deserved praise since.
Pundit says Granit Xhaka has gone from being an ‘idiot’ to a ‘star man’
Bayer Leverkusen signed Granit Xhaka from Arsenal in a £21.4 million deal last summer.
The midfielder has been one of the best signings in the Bundesliga. He has helped Leverkusen go eight points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the table, and they are now on course to win the title.
Xhaka never really got the praise he deserved at Arsenal – even though he did a lot of the same things that he is doing at Leverkusen right now.
Eamon Dunphy is one of those who seems to have recognised Xhaka’s quality now, and he has claimed that the Swiss international has completely changed since leaving Arsenal.
He said on his podcast: “Who’s their (Bayer Leverkusen’s) star man? Xhaka. He’s in midfield, he has calmed down, playing as a playmaker.
“There’s none of the old stuff we had at Arsenal. He was an idiot, kicking people, screaming at referees, it’s all gone, he’s a new man. That’s another tick from the manager ‘I can fix maniacs’.”
Xhaka deserves more praise
It’s funny that people are only recognising Granit Xhaka’s quality after his departure from Arsenal.
The Swiss international was one of the most criticised players in the world during his time as a Gunner, and most of that criticism was unwarranted.
We are so glad that Xhaka got a lot of love from Arsenal fans last season, and certain pundits are now jumping on the bandwagon.
Either way, Xhaka deserves the praise he is getting, and we hope he wins the Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen this season.
