Moreover, whilst the goalkeeper may have been willing to stay and fight for his spot, this could cause the situation to change.

Nick Pope’s lengthy injury at Newcastle United could also have a big impact.

Not only are Newcastle now being linked with a January move for Ramsdale, Pope may also still be absent for England next summer.

The latter is bound to be a close call, but could strengthen Ramsdale’s chances of being in the squad even if he remains as Mikel Arteta’s number two.

Furthermore, the goalkeeper may not even be stressed about the Euros next summer, perhaps preferring to focus on his long-term situation.
