Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus delivered a sensational performance in Sevilla in the Champions League, but limped off the pitch with a suspected hamstring injury.
Jesus provided an excellent assist to Gabriel Martinelli for the opener, before firing in a powerful second as Arsenal secured a vital 2-1 victory to go top of the Champions League group.
It was a brilliant performance from the 26-year-old, but there is now fear amongst Arsenal fans over his suspected injury.
Gabriel Jesus to have scan on injury
A report from the Evening Standard has now claimed that Jesus is set to have a scan today, Thursday, to determine the nature of his injury.
Arsenal flew back from Sevilla on Wednesday afternoon after having a training session, with the squad also training today ahead of Saturday’s match against Sheffield United, but Jesus could not train with his teammates as he awaits news over his injury.
Gabriel Jesus’ injury frustrations
Some of the striker’s performances have been outstanding this season, but it has not been an easy campaign. The Brazil international missed the start of the season with an injury, and picking up another one so soon after making his return will be frustrating for him.
Jesus also missed a large chunk of last season after picking up an injury during the World Cup. Whilst he is a popular player at the Emirates, and has displayed his world-class quality when fit, his lack of consistent game time because of injury may become a concern for both the player and his club.
Arsenal have been linked with a January move for Ivan Toney, and if Jesus has picked up a long-term injury, then the club may consider accelerating these transfer plans. However, they will hope that Jesus has merely picked up a knock, and will be ready to return soon.
