£27m Arsenal star now leads PL in one excellent stat after Sheffield United victory

Arsenal were sensational as they thrashed Sheffield United 6-0 in what was another fine away victory in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta’s side were utterly dominant as they eased to what will be one of their easiest wins of the season, and victory never looked in doubt as soon as Martin Odegaard netted an early opener.

Arsenal fired in 10 shots on target at Bramall Lane and could have even scored more in what was an outstanding victory, and another impressive aspect of the performance was that Sheffield United failed to register a single shot on target.

It was yet another excellent defensive display from the Gunners, who have the best record in the Premier League when it comes to conceding goals, and goalkeeper David Raya is continuing to perform well after an initial tough start at the club.

David Raya now leads Premier League for clean sheets

Despite starting the season on the bench, Raya now has more clean sheets than any other Premier League goalkeeper, with nine in this campaign so far.

Five of these nine have come on the road, with Aaron Ramsdale also keeping two himself in his rare appearances.

These clean sheets for Raya came in games away at Everton, Bournemouth, West Ham, Burnley and Sheffield United, and at home to Manchester City, Sheffield United, Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Jordan Pickford is just behind with eight clean sheets, whilst Alisson Becker of Liverpool is on seven.

The Premier League Golden Glove award is handed out to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in a single season.

It speaks volumes about the quality of Arsenal’s defence now, and the lack of quality in recent years, that no Gunners goalkeeper has won the award since Petr Cech in the 2015-16 season, in which he kept 16 clean sheets.

With Arsenal’s defence thriving, and the likes of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes performing well, Raya will hope to secure more clean sheets and win the award by the end of the season, before his £27m permanent transfer from Brentford is finalised.

Raya has silenced his critics in recent weeks, with his aggressive style crucial to Arsenal’s high-pressing system, and he has successfully surpassed Ramsdale in the pecking order despite the Englishman’s popularity at the club.
