Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya could be set to make a shock debut at Goodison Park today, and has dropped a hint over his possible selection on Instagram.

The Spain international joined from Brentford this summer in a surprising deal given Aaron Ramsdale’s excellent performances last season, and is yet to appear for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Raya was highly impressive for Brentford over the last few years, and Arsenal’s goalkeeping roster has never looked so strong.

It was reported before the international break that Raya could replace Ramsdale in goal for an extended run in the side, and Raya has now hinted that he could be set to appear for the first time.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

He has posted a matchday graphic on his Instagram story, perhaps indicating that he will start in the tough game away at Everton today. Despite this hint though, nothing has been confirmed over Arteta’s selection decision either way.

Should Raya come in for Ramsdale?

Although Ramsdale has not been at his magnificent best at the start of this season, he has not made any glaring errors or been poor enough that he would normally deserve to be dropped.

However, Raya’s arrival possibly means that both keepers will need to raise their performance levels to keep the starting spot, and Raya will likely have been given assurances that he would be handed a chance to earn his place in the team.

It was initially thought that Raya would make his debut in the Champions League or Carabao Cup, but he could now be in line to appear in the league, and this move could help push Ramsdale into raising his own performances.

There is fierce competition for a spot now, and whoever comes in will have to be at their best given the strength of both goalkeepers. Arsenal have kept just one clean sheet this season, and if Raya can help the Gunners to a first victory at Goodison Park since 2017, then he will be off to a good start if he does indeed come in today.
