Arsenal beat Athletic Club in the Champions League on Tuesday evening to get their European campaign off to the perfect start.
Indeed, Arsenal won 2-0 away from home at San Mames and they look in good shape to go on and qualify from the league stage after a strong start.
However, it would be remiss to pretend this was a perfect performance from Mikel Arteta’s side.
Indeed, for the first 70 minutes or so, Arsenal were very flat, and they struggled to make much happen.
However, two substitutions changed the game, and while the fanbase were over the moon with the win, one player may have been disappointed by Tuesday evening’s proceedings.

Eberechi Eze may not be happy after Champions League win
This was supposed to be a night to remember for Eberechi Eze.
Indeed, this was the England international’s first game in the Champions League after making a £60m move to Arsenal.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan for Eze and he was substituted in the second-half after a disappointing showing.
Eze was replaced by Gabriel Martinelli, while Leandro Trossard came on for Viktor Gyokeres too.
Fortunately for Arsenal, both Trossard and Martinelli made massive impacts when they came on, but that may be bad news for Eze.
Eberechi Eze stats vs Athletic Club compared to Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli
Eze will have been happy to see his team win, but he may well be slightly worried after watching two of his left-wing rivals shining.
Eze has been tipped for big things at Arsenal, but there’s no guarantee that he’ll be starting in this team.
Martin Odegaard is the starter in that number 10 role, meaning that Eze has been starting out on the left recently.
However, there’s plenty of competition for that spot from both Martinelli and Trossard, and on Tuesday, they showed their class.
| Eberechi Eze | Gabriel Martinelli | Leandro Trossard | |
| Minutes | 70 | 20 | 26 |
| Goals | 0 | 1 | 1 |
| Assists | 0 | 1 | 1 |
| Shots | 0 | 1 | 1 |
| Dribbles | 2 | 2 | 0 |
Eze has only just come into this Arsenal side, but it’s clear that Trossard and Martinelli are both going to do all they can to wrestle back their spots in the team.
The former Crystal Palace man needs to step things up if he wants to preserve his place in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.
