Some Arsenal fans might be surprised to learn that Aaron Ramsey is still playing football for his boyhood club Cardiff City in the Championship these days.
In total, Ramsey has made four appearances for Cardiff this season, before the former Arsenal hero succumbed to a difficult hamstring injury.
The 33-year-old hasn’t featured since September, with his return date still unknown.
Of course, Ramsey left Arsenal to join Juventus in 2019 after 369 appearances and 64 goals for the club.
The midfielder will always have a special place in the Arsenal history books, partly because of how he was able to bounce back from such a horrific injury at a young age.
That being said, in his own time at Arsenal, Martin Odegaard will ultimately be trying to go one step further than the Welshman.
Aaron Ramsey says Martin Odegaard has become the key ‘link’ for Arsenal
Ramsey won three FA Cups with Arsenal but never a league title – something Odegaard will be determined to land himself.
Speaking on the ‘Planet Premier League’ podcast, Ramsey recently spoke about his fellow midfielder Odegaard in glowing terms, expressing how crucial he had become for Arsenal.

Ramsey said the Norwegian was the ‘link’ between all phases of play for Mikel Arteta, explaining his importance.
He said: “Arsenal I mean, Odegaard, he’s been brilliant for Arsenal over the last few years.
“And I think his creativity, he can see a pass, his weight of pass is brilliant.
“He is the link between that sort of defensive side and the strikers. So I think at the moment Arsenal are missing that player in between the lines who can receive the ball in them little tight areas and slide these little killer passes through.
“And yeah, it was just nice to see him back the other day because he is going to be a massive lift to them.”
How do Aaron Ramsey and Martin Odegaard compare at Arsenal?
Fortunately, Odegaard is staying at Arsenal over the international break with the Norwegian national team recognising the need for their captain to rest.
And given Ramsey’s compliments, it’s interesting to compare Odegaard’s start at Arsenal in terms of goals and assists to the Welshman, who played a similar role.
Both have a keen eye for goal, and in truth the pair very similar in their numbers overall, even if Odegaard is currently presenting a slightly better goal threat.
| Aaron Ramsey | Martin Odegaard | |
| Appearances | 369 | 158 |
| Goals | 64 | 35 |
| Goals per game | 0.17 | 0.22 |
| Assists | 60 | 26 |
| Assists per game | 0.16 | 0.16 |
Two brilliant talents, and as mentioned, Arsenal’s current captain will be hoping to go one step further than likes of Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Cesc Fabregas at the Emirates Stadium, who weren’t able to win a league title.
