This summer transfer window has been dominated by movement in terms of strikers in the Premier League.

Chelsea have signed Liam Delap, Liverpool have signed Hugo Ekitike, while Everton have also signed a new number nine in the shape of Thierno Barry.

Arsenal have signed Viktor Gyokeres too as they have got in on the action of signing new number nines.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Alan Pardew has been discussing Arsenal’s move for Viktor Gyokeres, and he says that this may well be the signing of the summer in terms of strikers in the Premier League, ahead of the likes of Delap and Ekitike.

Viktor Gyokeres is the striker signing of the summer

Pardew spoke about Gyokeres and his move to Arsenal.

According to the pundit, Gyokeres’ move to the Emirates is the signing of the summer in terms of striker movement.

The former Newcastle manager says Gyokeres is a great finisher, a great runner and, overall, a great signing.

“I’m a big fan of this, I think this is the signing of the summer in terms of a striker. I think he does all of the jobs, he runs the channels, he’s good into feet, his finishing is good, it’s a great signing for Arsenal, really great,” Pardew said.

Viktor Gyokeres compared to other Premier League striker signings

Pardew says Gyokeres is the striker signing of the summer, and he may well be right.

Indeed, when you compare Gyokeres to other strikers who’ve made moves within the Premier League this season, his stats are much better.

Of course, there’s some context to be added here. Gyokeres was playing in Portugal last season – a weaker league than many in Europe, so the fact he’s scoring so many may not translate over to English football.

On top of that, Liverpool could still make the striker signing of the summer as they continue to push to do a deal for Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Strikers may well define this upcoming Premier League season, and Arsenal finally have a top-class number nine in the shape of Gyokeres.
