Alan Shearer thinks he knows why Arsenal are a level above other teams in the Premier League right now.

The Premier League table does not lie, which is why Arsenal sit four points clear at the summit. 

Things can change rapidly in the race for the title, but given how the Gunners have started the season, Mikel Arteta will be more excited than anxious about what’s to come. 

Even opposition players think that Arsenal are the best team in the league at present, with Shearer clearing up why that is.

Alan Shearer lists five reasons why Arsenal are better than other Premier League teams

Shearer dissected Arsenal’s win over Crystal Palace on The Rest Is Football podcast alongside Micah Richards and Gary Lineker. 

Lineker thinks Arsenal are the most consistent team by a mile right now, and Shearer shared a similar level of praise. 

“Because of their set pieces, because of their resilience, because of their squad, they’re so much more in the driving seat than the other two are,” Shearer said when comparing Arsenal to Manchester City and Liverpool.

The pundit went on to list a further two reasons why Arsenal are a cut above the rest after nine games played.

“Their ability to just win a game, even when they didn’t play well, they can just win the game because they can, because of set pieces and everything else, how good they are at the back.”

It’s high praise that the Gunners deserve amid their strong start to the season, with all the signs pointing to a possible triumph in May.

How 2025/26 Arsenal compare to the Invincibles after nine games played

Arteta won’t want to get ahead of himself, and the Arsenal squad have learned about losing focus the hard way.

What is interesting, however, is comparing how the current squad compare to the last Arsenal side to win the Premier League after the nine-game mark.

The Invincibles were the last squad to deliver the Premier League to North London, and the comparison between the unbeaten stars and the current squad is fascinating.

Both teams won seven games by the nine-game mark; however, where the Invincibles rose above was by, of course, remaining unbeaten, as Arsenal suffered defeat against Liverpool on matchday three this term.

Arteta’s side have their own advantage, conceding only three goals so far, something even the Invincibles couldn’t manage, as they conceded seven after playing nine games.

So long as the season ends in Premier League glory, fans won’t be too concerned about comparisons and statistics, but the signs are encouraging early into the campaign.
