Alan Shearer believes that Martin Odegaard’s brilliant bit of skill to assist Leandro Trossard’s goal is ‘ultimately’ what won Arsenal the game against West Ham.
Mikel Arteta’s team took a huge step towards securing their first Premier League title in 22 years as they won away at West Ham.
🤔 Who starts the Champions League final in the number 10: Eberechi Eze or Martin Odegaard?
Leandro Trossard’s strike in the 83rd minute proved to be the decisive moment, with VAR controversially disallowing Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time equaliser.
But it was Odegaard’s quality that proved decisive during the win, and Shearer has highlighted the Arsenal captain.
Alan Shearer says Martin Odegaard helped Arsenal beat West Ham
Alan Shearer believes that Martin Odegaard proved to be the biggest difference maker during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over West Ham United.
The former Premier League striker claims that the Gunners’ ability to bring on a player as good as Odegaard was vital against the Hammers.
Speaking about the win, Shearer told The Rest Is Football: “You have to praise Arsenal, by the way, because you can tell they’re under huge, huge pressure. I thought they started the game really well.

“The substitutions clearly, I mean, the strength of the subs that they’re able to bring on was a huge help for them.
“Trossard finishes off, but Odegaard, the piece of skill, to bring someone of that quality on is brilliant. Ultimately, that’s helped them win the game as well as an unbelievable save, again.”
The Arsenal captain is now making a strong case to start ahead of Eberechi Eze in the Champions League final on May 30.
Martin Odegaard changed the game for Arsenal
Sherare is spot on, Odegaard’s substitution in the 67th minute proved to be the moment which helped Arsenal regain control of the match.
Arsenal started the game brightly, but after an enforced reshuffle due to Ben White’s injury, Arteta’s side lost control.
But Odegaard, being subbed on, proved to make a huge difference for the North London club as he set up Trossard’s winning goal.
Over the course of the season, Arsenal fans have criticised Odegaard, but he certainly proved his worth at London Stadium with a key assist.
