Alan Shearer thinks Arsenal will do something this season that only one Premier League team has ever done before

Alan Shearer has revealed where he believes Arsenal will finish in the Premier League table in the 2025/26 season.

The Gunners will be looking to finally win the title after finishing second in each of the last three seasons.

Andrea Berta has reacted to last season’s disappointment by signing six players to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad, spending almost £200 million in the process.

Martin Zubimendi arrives from Real Sociedad for £55 million, while Viktor Gyokeres has signed from Sporting CP for a fee that could reach £63 million with add-ons.

Meanwhile, the likes of Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard and Cristhian Mosquera have completed moves to N5, to provide Arteta with additional depth heading into the new campaign.

Alan Shearer thinks Arsenal will finish second again this season

Arsenal’s squad has undoubtedly improved tenfold over the summer.

Not only do they now have a prolific number nine who will lead the line, they’ve also upgraded at the base of their midfield.

Additionally, the four depth signings will allow Arteta to rotate more frequently and keep his best players fit for longer stretches of the season.

In spite of this smart business, many pundits aren’t optimistic about the Gunners’ ability to win the Premier League.

Wayne Rooney thinks Arsenal will finish second, while Jermain Defore placed Arteta’s side in fourth, behind Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Alan Shearer agrees with his pundit counterparts, also putting Arsenal second in his predicted table.

“Liverpool are favourites, even without Isak,” Shearer wrote for BBC Sport.

“You just have to look at what they did last season, and how they won the title at a canter.

“Last season’s top four have done so much good business and gone so big in the transfer market, it is going to be extremely difficult for any of the chasing pack to break into those places.”

As it stands, Manchester City are the only team in the history of the Premier League to finish in the same position four seasons on the bounce.

The Citizens won the title four years in a row between 2020 and 2024, a feat matched by no other side in the competition’s history.

Arsenal would become the second team to remain in the same final position for four consecutive seasons if Shearer’s prediction comes to fruition.

Joining the history books for an unwanted record, the Gunners would be living up to the tag that they’ve garnered in recent years, ‘forever the bridesmaid, never the bride.’
