Alexandre Lacazette says Arsenal released a striker who was even better than Erling Haaland

Arsenal have had many great strikers play for them over the years.

Thierry Henry is the first name that comes to mind when you talk about great Gunners centre-forwards, while Ian Wright and Dennis Bergkamp also deserve a shout.

In recent seasons, Arsenal have struggled up front. That is why they spent big money on Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window.

However, Alexandre Lacazette rates one former Arsenal striker way higher – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

If you could re-sign one former Arsenal player right now, would it be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang? If not, who?

Auba has scored eight and assisted 10 in 19 games this season👀

Aubameyang was a superstar in his prime at Arsenal.

The Gabon international carried the Gunners on his back in his first few years at the club, and he is the biggest reason why Arsenal won the FA Cup and Community Shield in Mikel Arteta’s first season.

However, Aubameyang fell out with the Arsenal manager in late 2021. His contract was terminated, and he was allowed to leave for free in February of the following year.

Since leaving, the former Dortmund man has played for Chelsea, Barcelona, Marseille and Al-Qadsiah, and he’s now back at the French club.

Aubameyang has been incredible for Marseille despite being 36 years old, and that is probably one of the reasons why his good mate Lacazette rates him so highly.

In a video on the Saudi Pro League’s official social channels, the Frenchman was given a few great strikers and was asked to rank them in one of three categories – GOAT, great and good.

Lacazette named Erling Haaland and Bergkamp as great, but Aubameyang was given the GOAT status alongside the likes of Thierry Henry, Ronaldo Nazario and Karim Benzema.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s stats at Arsenal

Aubameyang was absolutely incredible for Arsenal until he signed his new contract at the club.

The Gabon international won the Premier League Golden Boot once, and without his goals, the Gunners would’ve suffered.

123 direct goal contributions in 163 games is an outstanding record, especially when you consider how poor Arsenal were during his time at the club.

It’s a shame that things ended the way they did for Aubameyang.

He could’ve been an Arsenal legend, but his departure and some of his comments after leaving ruined his legacy at the club.
