Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly has certainly made a strong impression ever since Mikel Arteta decided to hand him a proper first-team opportunity.

Now 18-years-old, Lewis-Skelly has made nine appearances so far for Arsenal this season, including important cameos against Manchester City and Liverpool.

Interestingly, Lewis-Skelly was chosen ahead of Oleksandr Zinchenko during the draw with Liverpool, a damning verdict for the more experienced defender.

Zinchenko impressed for Ukraine over the international break, but perhaps his performance demonstrated why he should be considered in an alternative position.

That being said, it was Martin Odegaard who Lewis-Skelly praised in a recent interview answering fan questions.

Myles Lewis-Skelly says Martin Odegaard has insane game intelligence

Lewis-Skelly was speaking alongside Ethan Nwaneri and was asked to choose one attribute he’d steal from one of his current Arsenal teammates.

Without too much hesitation the youngster complimented his captain, saying he’s always ‘one step ahead’ because of his brilliant understanding of the game.

Lewis-Skelly was asked: “If you could take one attribute from any of our current players, what would it be?”

He then replied: “Probably Martin Odegaard’s game intelligence. [He’s] one step ahead all the time, so yeah.”

Lewis-Skelly may have provided a hint over his long-term future at Arsenal

Of course, Lewis-Skelly’s response is particularly interesting when you remember that the youngster is a midfielder first and foremost himself.

Arteta had a clear plan for Lewis-Skelly to transition into an inverted full-back, but perhaps he could still have a long-term future starting in the middle.

Either way, it’s hard to argue with the 18-year-old’s ambition to read the game like Odegaard, who already made a huge impact during his return against Chelsea.

Aaron Ramsey lauded Odegaard’s importance recently, explaining why he’s become so crucial to Arteta.

An outstanding talent, and perhaps Odegaard could play alongside Nwaneri in Arsenal’s midfield one day.

Two similar skill-sets, and it’ll be a challenge for Arteta to craft a well-balanced midfield in the future.
