Ally McCoist says he has just changed his prediction about Arsenal after watching them recently

Arsenal are proving many people wrong this season.

The Gunners have been involved in three consecutive title races and have come close to lifting the Premier League crown in those years.

Liverpool beat them to the title last season, and although Arsenal made eight new signings in the summer, most people still backed Arne Slot’s side to retain their status as the champions.

Now, some of them are slowly changing their minds.

Ally McCoist has changed his prediction about Arsenal

The Premier League title race this season will be between Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Gunners are currently second in the table, just two points behind Slot’s side, who have won five of their first six games.

Liverpool beat Arsenal at Anfield in August thanks to a Dominik Szoboszlai goal, and that has given them a slight edge over Mikel Arteta’s men.

However, the Reds have not performed well at all this season, which is why Ally McCoist has changed his mind and is now backing Arsenal to win the Premier League.

He said after the Olympiacos game on talkSPORT: “At the start of the season, when we did our predictions, I fancied Liverpool, I really did. I thought, with the window they had, they strengthened incredibly well.

“But bizarrely, after Szoboszlai scored that goal to beat Arsenal, I have a sneaky feeling for Arsenal.

“I just think defensively, I look at the two centre-backs, even Mosquera that came on, I like him, David Raya is a good goalie. I just worry about Liverpool if they lost Alisson and particularly Van Dijk.”

Liverpool have suffered a major injury blow

McCoist was worried that Liverpool would struggle if one of Alisson Becker or Virgil van Dijk suffered an injury.

Those fears have come true.

Alisson got himself injured in Liverpool’s Champions League defeat at Galatasaray, and he is expected to be out until after the international break in November.

Arsenal suffered a lot last term when their key players were injured, so there is every chance that Liverpool will not be the same without their number one.

However, Arsenal’s focus should be on themselves, and if they continue to play like they have in their last two games, they will have a successful season.
