Ben White is one of the most important players at Arsenal and a central cog in coach Mikel Arteta’s side, so here is everything that you need to know about the defender.
The Gunners raided Brighton & Hove Albion to sign White in July 2021 following his first call-up for England. He cost Arsenal £50m, despite having only played one season in the Premier League. It saw White be the third-most expensive defender of all time when he transferred.
Arsenal boss Arteta had marked White as one of his top summer targets due to his ability to pass out from defence. But the Spaniard would also come to relish his versatility and turned White into a right-back. He took up the wider role to accommodate for William Saliba’s rise.

White had only played sparingly as a full-back during his rise in Brighton’s academy and over his loan spell for Newport County. The former Kingswood Youth and Southampton prospect also mostly played as a centre-back over his loan spells for Peterborough and Leeds United.
Coaches had even trusted White as a holding midfielder more often than as a right-back. Yet Arsenal have cherished Arteta’s decision, with White now one of the Premier League’s most consistent right-backs at either end of the pitch. But who is White really outside of football?

Ben White doesn’t watch football
Ben White has often been accused of not liking football – like his father. But the Arsenal star has no issue with the sport, just he does not enjoy watching it regularly on TV. White simply likes football for the competition on the pitch, the feeling of winning and pushing himself.
“I know people say I don’t like football,” White outlined to The Telegraph in March 2024. “I go home and football is not on my mind. I can just be a normal person, relax. [But] when I am in here, it is intense.
“I want to win everything that I do. My missus and I play a lot of games at home and I won’t be letting her win. I remember being young and always wanting to win and play aggressive and do as much as I could to win.”
Ben White’s tattoo
One of Ben White’s biggest passions outside of football is the Arsenal defender’s tattoos. He and wife Milly Adams even got matching ‘I Love You’ tattoos following their engagement. The right-back also has the word ‘shine’ written on the back of his neck, sat next to a small cross.
White also has a giant tattoo of the face of a lion across his chest, while the year of his birth, ‘1997’, features on his back in bold. He also has a butterfly on his back below a script of text. The defender also has many tattoos on his hands, including a rose, a heart and some arrows.
