Arsenal attacker Leandro Trossard has struggled to produce his best form in recent weeks.
Leandro Trossard had a quiet night as Arsenal ground out a 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday evening.
The Belgian forward might have won the game for the Gunners with the final touch of the match. In the dying seconds of the match, Trossard found himself on the ball in the PSV box and elected to shoot at goal. His effort was saved and he would have been better off rolling the ball to Eddie Nketiah for a simple tap-in.
This moment summed up Trossard’s entire performance against the Dutch outfit. The £27 million former Brighton and Hove Albion man was largely ineffective in the match. Playing on the left-wing in place of the rested Gabriel Martinelli, Trossard struggled to get into the game and make a tangible impact in the final third.
The 29-year-old has now failed to register a goal or an assist in his last five outings for the north London club. In general, his return in terms of end product has been excellent. Since his January arrival at the Emirates Stadium, Trossard has contributed seven goals and twelve assists in 41 appearances, despite never being a nailed-on starter.

What is going on with Leandro Trossard at Arsenal?
Although he has never been a regular fixture of the starting XI, Trossard has gotten plenty of game time by virtue of his versatility. Mikel Arteta has used the 30-cap Belgium international as a midfielder at times, as well as a striker. However, he has generally been used as the first rotation option for Martinelli on the left wing.
Despite the left flank having previously been described as Trossard’s best position, Clive Palmer believes that the player is now struggling to shine in that part of the pitch. He believes that Trossard is much happier and more comfortable when operating in central areas, rather than when he is being asked to hug the touchline by Arteta. Many Arsenal fans would now prefer to see Reiss Nelson given minutes on the left wing ahead of Trossard.
Speaking on the Arsenal Vision podcast, Palmer said of Trossard, “I see a little bit of a sulk with him on occasions…I’m not sure he’s totally happy with some of the roles that he has…Trossard has to do his work…when you go to the cashpoint the number drops in there Mr. Trossard and Arsenal football club have paid you some money so you’ve got to do your job sometimes.”
This is not the first time that it has been suggested that Trossard may not be entirely happy at Arsenal. The truth is, though, that the Gunners need him. Versatility is just one of his many attributes, and Trossard has proven himself capable of having a hugely positive impact in this side.
