Arsenal fans will be reflecting upon a successful summer transfer window as it slams shut until January.

Andrea Berta completed the majority of his considerable targets during the window, most notably signing a centre forward in Viktor Gyokeres and adding some creativity in Eberechi Eze.

There were some departures on deadline day as Oleksandr Zinchenko joined Nottingham Forest and Reiss Nelson went to Brentford on loan for the season.

Mikel Arteta will now be tasked with getting his new acquisitions to gel and the club are already acting as if they have signed one £45m player.

Arsenal already acting like they have signed Piero Hincapie on a permanent basis

Bayer Leverkusen sent an emotional message to Piero Hincapie as he departed the German club for a season-long loan at the Gunners.

Arsenal have the option to buy Hincapie at the end of the season for around £45m and speaking to talkSPORT, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed the club are already acting like the defender is a permanent figure.

Jacobs stated: “It is a loan with an initial option 52 million. All parties though expect a purchase. So this is being viewed by Arsenal sources as pretty much a lock as a permanent signing, but officially it’s a loan with a buy option.”

Arteta and Berta liked Hincapie’s versatility and it is believed the signing will give the Gunners extra flexibility tactically.

Hincapie can play as a centre back or a left back and enables Arteta to carefully consider his personnel based on the variety of opposition faced this season.

Piero Hincapie could bring back the best in Gabriel Martinelli

Left wing remains a problem for Arsenal, although there are signs that Arteta will use Eze in the role to drift inside and create chances.

Should Hincapie be deployed at left back, it may be the formula that Gabriel Martinelli has been praying for to resurrect his stuttering form.

The Ecuadorian is renowned for his powerful running down the channels and overlapping his winger, enabling Martinelli to have more space to come inside and shoot.

Martinelli has been shown into blind alleys by defenders in recent seasons and cut an isolated figure on the left flank – Hincapie could change all of that.
