It may not be long before Arsenal finally have their new number nine through the door.

After years of searching for a new striker, Arsenal have finally identified their top target in this area.

Viktor Gyokeres is Arsenal’s key striker target at the moment, and a deal is edging towards a conclusion here.

Arsenal are in talks over signing Viktor Gyokeres, and during these talks, the striker has already done something that has really impressed his potential new club.

According to Dharmesh Sheth, speaking on Sky Sports, Arsenal are very impressed by the desire Gyokeres has shown to come and sign for the Gunners.

Arsenal impressed by Viktor Gyokeres’ desire to sign for the club

According to Sheth, Arsenal have been impressed by how strongly Gyokeres has pushed for this move.

The Swedish striker is very keen to join Arsenal, and the Gunners have been quietly impressed by how keen the forward is to make this move.

“Talks are continuing between Arsenal and Sporting over their striker Viktor Gyokeres,” Sheth said.

“There is a gap in valuation, that remains, with Sporting thought to want £69m including add-ons. It’s thought that how much of that fee will be guaranteed up front will be key to getting this deal done.

“Arsenal are thought to be encouraged and impressed by Gyokeres’ desire to want to come to Arsenal. That is where he sees his future career, 27-years old, his first taste of Premier League football and he wants it to be at Arsenal.”

Viktor Gyokeres expected to dip slightly after joining Arsenal

Gyokeres to Arsenal looks like it could be one of the deals of the summer, and with good reason.

The striker is coming off a season where he scored 39 league goals, and that is, quite simply, remarkable.

However, Gyokeres isn’t expected to continue scoring at this rate as he heads to north London.

According to David Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast, people close to Gyokeres do expect him to dip slightly when he arrives in England.

“People I speak to in Portugal and around the game who know far more about this sort of stuff than me, and don’t have skin in the game or a dog in the fight, who have studied this player closely, a couple of things they say immediately is that his volume may come down in the Premier League,” Ornstein said.

A slight dip is inevitable when you move to a new, stronger league, but even if Gyokeres’ output halves, he’ll still be looking at a 20-goal season, which is certainly good enough to fire Arsenal to a Premier League title.

Rio Ferdinand thinks Gyokeres could be a hit, and this could well be a game changing signing for the Gunners.
