Arsenal believe there are ‘obvious’ reasons the club did not win the Premier League last season

Arsenal are preparing to begin their quest for the Premier League title once again as they open their campaign against Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta’s excellent record against Manchester United bodes well for the Gunners but they will be fully aware of a rejuvenated United side following some promising transfer business.

Arsenal went into last season as many pundits’ favourites for the title but ultimately fell way short behind eventual winners Liverpool.

Despite reaching a Champions League semi-final for the first time since 2009, it was ultimately a disappointing season for the Gunners. The club believe the reasons are ‘obvious’ for their failure.

Arsenal blame injuries and referee decisions for Premier League title failure last season

As per The Independent, Arsenal have put their failure to win the Premier League title last season down to two main factors.

The report claims: “The club feel the reasons for that disappointment were obvious, from injuries to being subject to brief “refereeing zealotry” over new rules, but they were otherwise in a good place.”

Arsenal’s injury crisis last season was amongst the worst the club has seen in recent years and positions were decimated at the same time, making it even more difficult to adapt.

At one point in the season, the first-choice attacking trio of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli were all out injured.

At the beginning of the year, it was central midfield that had problems with both Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard out injured.

The Gunners will be hoping that those two aspects improve this season as the club face the pressure from supporters of bringing home a major trophy.

Arsenal can have no excuses this season if they fail to land a major trophy

The Gunners have no excuses to not perform and deliver this season. Andrea Berta has brought Arteta the striker that he craved in Viktor Gyokeres and the depth of the squad is looking much stronger.

It is now up to Arteta to rotate his squad more efficiently this season, he cannot play the likes of Saka and Rice in every single game.

Arsenal also have to be smarter when it comes to officials. Last season, players gave referees the option to send them off, albeit with a lack of consistency across the league.

Focus on the job at hand and play with confidence and authority, that should be the message from the Arsenal coaching staff.

They are well-equipped to have a go at all four competitions this season and simply cannot get to May with another trophyless campaign.
