Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has mocked Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta over a recent video that emerged of himself and Salt Bae.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was recently recorded being served food by Salt Bae, in a video which quickly did the rounds on social media.

For the uninitiated, Salt Bae – real name, Nusret Gokce –  is a Turkish chef who found fame online in 2017. He has drawn criticism in the football world before for making a bizarre appearance on the pitch after the final whistle of the 2022 World Cup final.

Arteta had the Salt Bae restaurant experience whilst he and his Arsenal squad were enjoying a training camp in Dubai. They returned to north London a few days in advance of their clash with Crystal Palace.

The warm weather break clearly did the Arsenal players some good, as they looked reinvigorated and full of confidence as they put the Eagles to the sword, securing a 5-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

That win has reignited the Gunners’ title challenge. Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich is still convinced that the north London club have what it takes to be crowned champions come the end of the campaign.

However, another iconic former Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand, is still hung up on Arteta’s interaction with Salt Bae. Speaking on FIVE, he said, “he [Salt Bae] was feeding some of the guests at my wedding like that. If I’m paying for that he ain’t feeding me nothing, not having it, but he was going around some of the guests doing that.”

“A Man United manager ain’t doing that, only an Arsenal manager would do that type of stupidness. Pep [Guardiola] ain’t doing that.”

Whether it was something Pep Guardiola would do or not, Arteta will brush off such criticism, as his players have clearly rediscovered some good form on the pitch, which is all that really matters. Arsenal now need to build on this win against Crystal Palace and put together a run of positive results that gets them right back into the heat of the title race.
