Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has now given his verdict on the chances of Arsenal being crowned Premier League champions at the end of this season.
Having endured a patch of poor form, Arsenal got their title challenge back cup and running with a 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Having struggled to find the back of the net in recent weeks, it will have come as a huge relief to Mikel Arteta to see his side looking clinical in the final third once again. However, it should be noted that the Eagles were extremely poor defensively. Though, that shouldn’t take anything away from Arsenal, who were excellent on the day.
It was the kind of result that can give a huge boost to the confidence levels at a club. Gabriel Martinelli will also be flying high this week as, having struggled to score consistently all season, he bagged a well-taken brace against the south coast outfit.
Even as they lost consecutive games over the New Year period, and gave up top stop in the table as Liverpool flew past them, the Gunners were never really out of the title race. There were always reasons to remain optimistic about this team’s chances of pulling off something special this season. There is still a long way to go in this campaign, after all.
However, had Arteta’s side failed to get back to winning ways against Crystal Palace, then journalist Charles Watts believes it really would have been time to panic.

Mark Bosnich has his say on Arsenal title chances
Mark Bosnich believes that such an emphatic win was much needed, and he also believes that Arsenal can achieve their aims for this season. Speaking to Sky Sports, the 52-year-old said, “I still think that they can win the title…they’ve had a really tough period…but as I’ve told a lot of Arsenal supporters over here, I’d much rather have a dodgy spell right now, around the Christmas and New Year period, than come April/May. I think they’ve answered their critics in emphatic fashion and they’re an excellent side.”
Looking back on the points that the Gunners dropped around the turn of the year, Bosnich continued, “the bigger worry for Arsenal fans would be if they weren’t creating chances and they weren’t dominating games…Even in those games that they’ve lost, there have been very few games they haven’t dominated in between the boxes. Games are decided in the boxes, and they’ll know that, but I’d be much more worried if it was the other way around.”
Arsenal now need to gather momentum off of the back of this win and put together a run of positive results. Their next two league fixtures will see them take on Nottingham Forest and Liverpool. Six points from those two outings will put Arteta’s side right back in the heat of the title race.
