Sporting CP inserted a clause into Viktor Gyokeres’ sale to Arsenal that is close to being met due to the striker’s goal contributions this season.
Gyokeres’ performance against Tottenham was his best yet for the Gunners, as he added his ninth and tenth Premier League goals to his tally.
It’s good news for Arsenal, who have been waiting patiently for the Swede to be the reliable goalscorer that they need, but it also triggered an alarm for the club’s financial department.
Arsenal paid an upfront fee in the region of £55m for Gyokeres, which will rise to around the £63m mark due to certain add-ons, and one is close to being triggered.

In the aftermath of the North London Derby, Portuguese outlet O Jogo reminded Arsenal that an additional €500,000 fee needs to be budgeted for to deliver to Sporting CP very soon.
That’s because one clause in Gyokeres’ sale was that Arsenal are to pay Sporting €500,000 for a block of 20 goal contributions.
The fee of around £430,000 will be expected, as the Sweden international’s double against Tottenham took his goal contribution tally for the season to 17.
Gyokeres has 15 goals and two assists in all competitions, and based on his 2026 form, the 20-contribution milestone could come quickly.
It’ll be another expenditure for Arsenal, but one that the Gunners won’t mind paying due to what he’s finally delivering on the pitch.

Naturally, the 27-year-old will want to be at the top of the list, but the idea of outscoring Erling Haaland is a stretch, even for Gyokeres’ standards.
Away from Gyokeres’ standards and into Arsenal’s, the striker is on track, as you’d have to go back to the 2019/20 season to revisit the last time an Arsenal player finished the season in the top five for most goals.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the last to finish in the top five, and while there are a lot of games to play, Arsenal’s summer signing will hope to become the next.
