The international break has to be the most hated period of the season for fans of a football club. The break can have both positive and negative impacts on the players’ performances for the rest of the season.
Good performances for their respective countries could boost their confidence when they return to their respective clubs. However, the other terrible side of that coin is potential injuries.
Arsenal are once again the victims of losing their players when on international duty. The Gunners could be without two senior midfielders for their trip to Watford on Sunday according to a few reports.
Lucas Torreira was replaced by Nahitan Nandez in the 47th minute of Uruguay’s game against Costa Rica. Uruguayan outlet La Red 21 claim that the midfielder asked to be withdrawn due to a ‘nuisance’ in his groin. This would be a terrible blow especially if it is something serious that would keep him out of action for a while.
In other terrible news, Granit Xhaka has also reportedly suffered an Achilles injury. Xhaka limped off in the final stages of Switzerland’s 4-0 victory against Gibraltar and The Metro quoted him saying that he has been struggling for some time now.
He said: “I’ve been suffering from Achilles tendon pain for a few weeks now. I felt it during the game. It hurts now, but it should be okay otherwise.”
Unai Emery will be hoping that both his star midfielder will be back in action as early as possible and their return becomes even more significant as the Europa League group stages is right around the corner.
