Arsenal fans all say the same thing as Takehiro Tomiyasu update emerges, Arteta must be ruthless

Arsenal are already facing a few injury issues ahead of the start of the Premier League season, with some players still yet to partake in training.

Riccardo Calafiori has now joined Mikel Arteta’s roster of defenders, and Jurrien Timber has recovered from his cruciate ligament injury to impress in pre-season.

This was necessary, as left-back options Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu are currently injured. Tomiyasu picked up an injury in training which Arteta branded “unbelievable,” which ruled him out for the pre-season tour in the USA.

Arsenal are now returning to North London, and have two more pre-season games at the Emirates Stadium scheduled, with fixtures against Bayer Leverkusen and Olympique Lyonnais scheduled before the season begins.

An update on Tomiyasu’s injury has now emerged, and Arsenal fans are far from happy.

Takehiro Tomiyasu to miss rest of Arsenal pre-season fixtures, fans are frustrated

The Athletic have now reported that Tomiyasu is unlikely to return for the remainder of Arsenal’s pre-season fixtures.

“He (Tomiyasu) stayed behind to rehabilitate in north London with Kieran Tierney. It is doubtful whether Tomiyasu will feature in the remainder of pre-season, while Tierney has already been ruled out,” they revealed.

Arsenal fans have taken to X to express their frustration, after several years of injury problems when it comes to Tomiyasu, and many have claimed that he should be sold.

“Honestly, I rate him as a player, but it’s getting to the point where if you’re never fit, you’re just taking up a valuable squad spot. I wish him a speedy recovery, but if he’s not fit enough to play at least 15 games before Jan, we should sell him,” one fan posted.

“We have to get rid of Tomiyasu in January. This guy has never played 10 games without calling for an ambulance,” another claimed.

“Honestly one of the biggest benefits of signing Calafiori is that we’re less reliant on Tomiyasu,” another fan pointed out.

“Its time we move on from Tomiyasu. He is hardly available for us,” a fan claimed.

Arsenal need to be ruthless over Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal handed a new contract to Tomiyasu last season, but they were wary of his injury problems.

With Timber and Calafiori in the squad, Arsenal are no longer reliant on Tomiyasu, but he is a very useful and high-quality player when fit.

However, without a full pre-season, he will now struggle to get into the side, and build up a run of fitness. If his injury problems continue this season, then Arteta needs to seriously consider moving on from him, as it will become clear that he will unfortunately never become a reliable player.
