Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has recently been linked with a January departure from the club.

Arsenal are now thought to be open to letting Eddie Nketiah leave the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming January transfer window, if an appropriate offer for the player comes in.

Mikel Arteta has shown a great deal of faith in the striker. The 24-year-old has been bestowed with the iconic No. 14 shirt, and last summer was handed a new long-term contract.

In general, the once-capped England man has done a decent job for the Gunners when called upon in Gabriel Jesus’ frequent absences. However, it seems clear, after a return of nine goals from 44 Premier League outings since the start of last season, that he is not the man who will prove capable of firing Arsenal to a Premier League title triumph.

The north London club are on the lookout for a new striker at this moment in time. Three key targets who have been mooted and linked are Ivan Toney, Evan Ferguson, and Victor Osimhen. Any one of that trio would represent a real statement signing, capable of taking the Gunners’ attacking contingent to the next level, pushing Nketiah further down the pecking order in the process.

Arsenal fans have their say on the future of Eddie Nketiah

At this stage in his career, Nketiah needs to be starting regularly and proving that he can be at least somewhat prolific in the top flight of English football. With Arteta seeking to evolve and improve his team further, Nketiah is never going to get the chance to be the main man at Arsenal for the long-term.

What’s more, given his age, skillset, and potential, Arsenal ought to be able to attract a decent fee for the striker.

Plenty of Arsenal fans feel that the time has come for the Hale End academy graduate to be moved on. Taking to X, one supporter said, “good move, we need an elite striker.” Another fan said, “if this news is true it will be good for Nketiah for regular playing time and also if Arsenal want to challenge with the big dawg they’ll need a world class striker.”

A number of Arsenal fans believe that the forward’s departure is somewhat overdue. One said, “praise the lord it’s about time.” Another agreed, stating, “Nketiah is not Arsenal quality.. He can do a decent job but he is not consistent to depend on.”

However, the Gunners need to ensure that they fetch a good price for the player. As one fan put it, “we should be getting good value if we are being serious. Nothing less than £45m. He’s been capped by England and homegrown.”
