Mikel Arteta is arguably the best thing that has happened to Arsenal since Arsene Wenger.
The Spaniard joined the Gunners in 2019, when the club was a mess. The atmosphere was toxic, there were several average players on big wages and the culture needed changing.
Arteta, in his first-ever job as a manager, took on that difficult challenge, and he has transformed Arsenal into one of the best teams in the world.
Despite doing all that over the last five years, the 42-year-old did not get the backing he needed in the January transfer window to bring in a new striker.
Yes, it was a difficult market and Arsenal would’ve had to overpay to get their targets, but after so many injuries this season, the board should’ve done something.
But, owners Stan and Josh Kroenke, along with everyone else higher up at the club, failed to bring in a new striker, and Arsenal supporters are fearing the worst now.
Arsenal fans think Mikel Arteta could resign because of the Kroenkes
Many people try to discredit Arteta because he hasn’t won the Premier League or the Champions League yet, but those arguments are truly laughable.
Not many managers in world football could’ve transformed Arsenal on and off the pitch the way Arteta has done over the last five years – we don’t even think Pep Guardiola would be able to do it.
But, the Kroenkes decided against backing Arteta when he needed it the most in the winter window. If this repeats in the summer, fans fear that the Spaniard will leave.
One Arsenal fan tweeted: “We need to make changes and be as ambitious as Arteta is. He needs a team that has the same ambition as him. We are wasting him, and it is only a matter of time before he walks. We need to sort out our mess before it’s too late.”
Another wrote: “The bottom line is Arteta’s been let down big time. Complain all you want, but if he leaves because he hasn’t been backed, he walks into pretty much any job in world football. With proper financial backing… scary.”
“Arteta will actually walk away and we’ll return to being a banter club, right where we belong,” said another.
Another worried Gooner tweeted: “This club will never win anything under KSE. Arteta will walk away if they fail to support him in the summer window.”
“This summer is our last chance. After this, Arteta will walk. Last summer was dreadful. If you want to be champions, that’s not good enough. Maybe that’s why Edu left? Couldn’t do his job properly. How many strikers have Liverpool got? That’s the difference maker,” said another.
The signing Arsenal owners must deliver to keep Arteta happy
Arsenal fans are right to be worried.
Arteta loves the club and will do everything in his power to bring success – just like he has been doing over the years – but if he isn’t backed, why should he stay?
David Ornstein revealed recently that Arteta will be snapped up by a huge club within seconds if he leaves Arsenal, and we have no doubt about that.
That would be an unforgivable mistake by the Kroenkes – they have to keep the Spaniard happy and there’s one way they can do that.
The Arsenal board must break the bank and sign Alexander Isak in the summer. Yes, he will cost a fortune, but Arteta has done more than enough to earn this signing.
