Arsenal fans were hoping that former goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale would keep rivals Tottenham at bay in the Premier League.

Spurs travelled to St James’ Park in search of a much-needed three points as Thomas Frank’s side are still suffering from a North London Derby hangover.

Since Arsenal beat Tottenham 4-1 in the derby, the Lilywhites are without a win; however, they experienced some late joy on matchday 14.

Cristian Romero scored a 95th-minute equaliser to earn Spurs a point against Newcastle, and the leveller was something Ramsdale won’t want to see again.

Mikel Arteta knows he was right to replace Ramsdale, whose time as Arsenal’s number one came to an end in 2023 when David Raya arrived.

The Arsenal manager got a lot of stick for the decision, but on matchday 14, it became clear why Ramsdale is no longer the Gunners’ number one.

Romero’s bicycle kick was no match for Alejandro Garnacho’s Puskas Award strike at Goodison Park, as the Spurs defender’s shot seemed to move in slow motion.

The concern was that, still, Ramsdale was unable to stop the shot, diving late to concede the late equaliser, a moment that Arsenal fans immediately reacted to.

On X, Arsenal supporters swarmed to share an instant reaction to Romero’s injury-time leveller, reminiscing on Ramsdale’s time at the Emirates.

“Ramsdale is still doing Ramsdale things lol,” one fan said.

Another echoed that opinion, “All the worst memories came back watching that dive.”

A fellow X user said, “Ramsdale slow motion diving WHO IS SHOCKED,” as one Arsenal supporter wrote, “I have not missed Ramsdale’s delayed dives.”

Where do you stand on Aaron Ramsdale’s comments about concentration?

“If you ask me to concentrate on a game of football for 90 minutes? I’m finished. I can’t do it.

“That’s why I get involved with the fans and I’ll sing along with the songs. If someone is giving me abuse, I’ll turn round and give them a bit back.”

Arsenal fans were not surprised in the slightest at how slowly the Englishman reacted to Romero’s shot, which only racked up 0.09xG, as per Sofascore

“Ramsdale stuck in the mud ffs. Seen that before,” a fan watching the game wrote, while another referenced the other match played that night.

After Manchester City beat Fulham 5-4, an Arsenal fan reflected on the two former Gunners goalkeepers who were in action.

“Tonight is a pretty good reminder as to why Leno and Ramsdale are no longer at Arsenal.”

Ramsdale is a top goalkeeper; however, against Spurs, his mishap came as no surprise, reinforcing why he quickly fell out of Arteta’s plans.
