Arsenal fans were unhappy with referee Simon Hooper after the North London Derby win over Tottenham, despite a slice of luck in the clash.

With the Gunners struggling for form, the Emirates Stadium appeared shaken early on when Heung-Min Son opened the scoring for Spurs.

The home side rallied though, as Dominic Solanke’s own goal brought them level right before Leandro Trossard fired Arsenal into the lead.

It was a huge win for Mikel Arteta, but one that still wasn’t without its controversy when it came to the refereeing and match officials.

Arsenal fans annoyed over referee’s yellow card call for Myles Lewis-Skelly

Referee Simon Hooper didn’t make many fans from either side pleased over two separate moments in the North London Derby.

Tottenham fans were left angry over an Arsenal corner that should’ve been a goal kick – with that set-piece eventually leading to a goal.

As for the home support, they were left frustrated as Hooper gave a yellow card to Myles Lewis-Skelly in bizarre fashion.

The Hale End academy graduate was substituted off and while he made his way towards the nearest exit, a swarm of Tottenham players pushed him and started a small scuffle.

While they may argue it was down to delaying the restart, the time between the board going up and Lewis-Skelly leaving the pitch was minimal.

Nevertheless, the Arsenal star received a booking, with fans left angered over the situation that led to the decision.

One supporter said on social media: “Hey @FA_PGMOL how is MLS given a yellow when being subbed off but 2 Spurs players who are pushing him around aren’t carded for their actions? They were the instigators…also the Kai Havertz card for stepping on a foot? Another pathetic performance from your org.”

Another added to the bemusement by stating: “Did MLS just get a yellow for getting shoved off the field? Makes sense.”

“There was about 2 seconds from MLS number going up to him getting a yellow card in this incident,” one fan complained. “He didn’t even have a chance to start walking and the ref and Spurs players were man handling him.”

“Sorry. But how do MLS end up with a yellow card from that?” another added in frustration.

Frustration was clear when taken out on the referee, Hooper, with a fan stating: “Simon Hooper is so so weak lol why is that a yellow for MLS.”

It was yet another moment of annoyance, but one that fortunately didn’t cost Arsenal the game.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is no stranger to a bizarre Arsenal yellow card

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s rise to the first team has seen him impress in plenty of different ways, especially on the pitch.

Something that is starting to come into focus is his character and personality, having shown he is capable of dealing with the big moments.

There was an edge to his play and his reaction upon being substituted showed as much, riling up the crowd for a big final few minutes.

The Hale End academy graduate is no stranger to a bizarre yellow card either, with Lewis-Skelly picking up a yellow card before his debut for a strange interaction on the sidelines in one match.

He is certainly adding something different to the side and will be one to keep an eye on for the rest of the season.
