Arsenal fans have a lot to say about Fabio Vieira after seeing what he did on loan at Porto

Arsenal sent Fabio Vieira on loan to Porto in the summer.

The Gunners did a lot of good work with respect to departures. A number of players were moved on, either on loan or permanent deals.

Many Arsenal fans expected Vieira to stay this season, but Mikel Arteta surprised everyone and sent him out on loan to his old club, Porto.

The 24-year-old has had injury issues over the last few months. That has limited him to just 574 minutes of game time, which is a real shame.

On Thursday night, Vieira came on as a substitute for Porto in their Europa League game against Anderlecht. The Arsenal loanee scored less than a minute later, an impressive long-range strike with his weaker right foot.

That has got many Arsenal supporters talking on social media.

Vieira’s goal on Thursday night is his first for Porto since returning on loan in the summer. It has taken a while, but it was a terrific strike.

Arsenal fans are divided over what to make of Vieira after watching his goal. Some feel he deserves another opportunity at the Emirates, while others have urged Arteta to cash in on him.

One Arsenal fan tweeted: “I would bring him back from loan just for squad depth.”

Another wrote: “With his weaker foot! Look where he plays! CAM in 4-2-3-1 system. That’s where he excels. I hope my boss is watching. Fabio is not a 4-3-3 system player but a 4-2-3-1 with a double pivot.”

“Need him back in January, I can’t lie,” said another.

A few other Arsenal fans, however, saw this as an opportunity to urge Arteta to sell Vieira.

One wrote: “He doesn’t cut the mustard in the Premier League. Needs to be SOLD!”

Another said: “Hopefully his stocks go up and we can sell in the summer.”

“We don’t need him, we’ve got Nwaneri,” said another.

Does Fabio Vieira have a future at Arsenal?

Arsenal paid £34 million to sign Vieira from Porto in 2022.

That was a lot of money for someone who hadn’t even played 80 senior games club games. However, Arteta saw something in him that he really liked, and he brought him in.

Vieira is definitely a talented player. He is excellent on the ball, is very creative, and can score goals and provide assists. He’s also incredibly versatile.

That checks a lot of boxes, but with Martin Odegaard and Ethan Nwaneri both going nowhere, we just can’t see a way back for Vieira.

We expect the 24-year-old to be sold once he finishes his loan spell at Porto.
