Arsenal may still strengthen their squad in what remains of this summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta has considered a number of potential striker targets this summer. Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Dominic Solanke, Victor Osimhen, and Ivan Toney, amongst others.

Whilst the Gunners already have Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Eddie Nketiah available to them as options to lead the line, there is certainly a sense that Arteta could use a more prolific centre-forward in his ranks.

Toney has been linked with Arsenal for some time, and has shown in the past that he can be clinical in front of goal in the Premier League.

It certainly seems that the forward is set to move on from Brentford this summer, as he was left out of the Bees’ matchday squad for the first round of Premier League fixtures due to mounting transfer interest.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, reporting on X, Saudi Arabia is now the most likely destination for Toney, rather than the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal fans discuss future of Ivan Toney

With the Gunners now looking unlikely to secure Toney’s services, many supporters of the North London club have now shared their thoughts on missing out on the player.

One fan said: “This was a good few months ago and I heard rumours that Mikel and the board wasn’t happy with his attitude apparently!”

Another claimed that Toney: “Isn’t the type of person that Arteta likes.”

Another added: “Good for us tbh. He isn’t good enough. We need to concentrate on Isak and try and get him if possible next summer.”

One stated: “I’m starting to feel like Toney’s been overhyped at this point anyways. I’m fine keeping Havertz at 9 til we find the right #9.”

Kai Havertz delivers for Arsenal v Wolves

Whilst Bukayo Saka stole the show against Wolves, Havertz also did an excellent job in Arsenal’s Premier League opener. The German led the line effectively, and was on hand to put his side 1-0 up, as he met Saka’s cross with a brilliantly timed run, connecting with the ball just ahead of the onrushing goalkeeper and diverting it into an empty net.

Following his performances up front in the second half of last season, Havertz deserved to start this season as Arteta’s first choice to lead the line, and he repaid that faith against Wolves.
