Goalkeepers linked with Arsenal transfer

Arsenal have been linked with new goalkeepers during the summer 2024 transfer window amid doubts surrounding Aaron Ramsdale’s future in N5.

One option Arteta and sporting director Edu have explored is Jordan Pickford, with Arsenal rivalling Chelsea’s interest in the Everton star. The London rivals have both paid close attention to the Toffees’ financial problems in view of a possible bargain.

Reports in Spain have even claimed Arsenal made Real Madrid an offer to sign Andriy Lunin before he jetted off to Euro 2024 with Ukraine. Los Blancos have also offered the shot-stopper a new contract but Lunin is thinking about his future.

A return to Emirates Stadium has even been considered for Wojciech Szczesny as Arsenal look for a homegrown goalkeeper to replace Ramsdale. The Gunners would like to sign a homegrown player if their England international leaves to help meet the quota.

Another homegrown goalkeeper on Arsenal’s radar is Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jason Steele, who also played with David Raya at Blackburn Rovers. The experienced shot-stopper is only a rotational part of the Seagulls’ line-up but is under contract until 2026.

If Arteta and Edu elect against a homegrown signing in goal, the Gunners could also advance Arsenal’s interest in Diant Ramaj of AFC Ajax. The north London giants feel the German fits their desired profile with his ability on the ball after frequent scouting trips.

Another Eredivisie shot-stopper has also featured on Arteta’s radar this summer with Arsenal interested in Justin Bijlow’s transfer from Feyenoord. The Gunners and Liverpool believe the Dutchman would be an ideal signing to serve as their No2s in 2024/25.

A shock summer switch to Emirates Stadium is even on the cards for Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley as Arsenal prepare to replace Ramsdale. The Gunners have marked the experienced shot-stopper as one option to provide cover for Raya as he faces being third-pick for Wolves.

Arteta has not only sought a proven understudy for Raya this summer but also a young prospect with Arsenal exploring the transfer of AFC Ajax gem Tommy Setford. The England youth international is highly rated and would join on a long-term contract.

Defenders transfer linked to Arsenal

Jeremie Frimpong has been linked with a switch to Arsenal if he opts to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window. The wing-back helped his side towards an unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign last season.

With plenty of talk also surrounding a new left-back, Arsenal have made Fenerbahce an offer to sign Ferdi Kadioglu. But the Gunners and Borrusia Dortmund are yet to meet his Super Lig side’s asking price of at least €35-40m (£30-34m).

LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro has been rumoured with a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window, as well. The teenager made 32 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, impressing at centre-back.

With a new centre-back sought after in north London, Arsenal have also shown an interest in signing Murillo from Nottingham Forest. But sporting director Edu and Arteta do not covet his arrival in N5 as much as the other, with Edu the Brazilian’s bigger fan.

The Gunners could also move for a new right-back in the summer transfer window with reports of Arsenal keeping tabs on Lutsharel Geertruida’s situation at Feyenoord. Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur also like the Rotterdam native, who De Kup chiefs value at £25m.

A star showing for Italy early on at Euro 2024 also sparked reports that Arsenal approached Riccardo Calafiori’s agent to discuss a potential transfer for the Bologna centre-back. But the Gunners are facing competition from Tottenham for the €50m (£42m) gem.

With a new centre-back possibly on Arteta’s shopping list this summer, Arsenal have also shown an interest in FC Barcelona star Jules Kounde. But reports in Spain note the Catalan club will demand a big offer with the Blaugrana loath to lose the Frenchman.

The chance to sign free agent Sergio Roberto has also taken Arteta’s interest with Arsenal contacting the Barcelona product. He left Camp Nou in June after the Blaugrana opted against giving the right-back a new contract.
