Arsenal fans have officially lost it with the PGMOL after controversial Liverpool penalty decision

Arsenal fans have been left extremely frustrated with the PGMOL after two differing penalty decisions over the weekend.

The Gunners were held to a draw against Everton in the Premier League, following a questionable decision from referee Darren England.

Myles Lewis-Skelly fouled Jack Harrison for an Everton penalty, and even though it appeared a soft decision, the VAR didn’t overturn it.

Former referee Mark Clattenburg claims it wasn’t a penalty against Arsenal, given the lack of contact made to create the fall.

Despite that, and a frustrating result, Arsenal were left perhaps even more frustrated to see decisions elsewhere in the division.

Premier League release statement on Fulham penalty denied against Liverpool

While Arsenal are cursing their luck with officiating in the Premier League this season, some of their frustration is twofold when looking across the division.

Title rivals Liverpool haven’t helped that, given some of the fortune that they have been handed through the season.

That continued over the weekend as the Reds appeared to get away with two huge penalty shouts in one swift attack.

Caoimhin Kelleher seemed to foul Andreas Pereira before Virgil van Dijk clattered into Rodrigo Muniz.

After a check, neither was given as a penalty.

A statement from the Premier League on it reads: “The referee’s call of no penalty to Fulham following a challenge by Kelleher on Pereira was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed a coming together and not a reckless action.

“The VAR also checked and cleared the incident between van Dijk and Muniz.”

Comparing that incident with Arsenal’s just one day earlier and it creates a frustration that is very clear among the fans and their sentiment towards the PGMOL.

Arsenal fans fume over Liverpool penalty decision

Arsenal fans took to social media to make their feelings abundantly clear over the penalty decision for Liverpool compared to their team.

One fan said: “So stonewall and so Liverpool that Arsenal had a penalty given against them at this moment, despite not even having a game today”

Another added: “The difference this season between Arsenal and Liverpool. Refs cost Arsenal 2 points by giving a penalty that was never a penalty, same week that Liverpool scored one of the clearest offside goals you’ll ever see.”

One fan went into detail by stating: “If you show someone videos of Everton penalty incident vs Arsenal and then proceed to show them the penalty incident for Fulham vs Liverpool and ask them which penalty was given. They are 100% going to say Fulham got a penalty.”

“Fulham denied a penalty on one end and Liverpool score at the other. I can understand why Arsenal fans keep moaning about the refs,” another supporter stated.

Fans of other clubs chimed in by stating: “Arsenal fans are gonna be fuming and rightly so that was a clear penalty against Liverpool.”

Another added: “If it’s Arsenal, it’s a penalty. And it’s funny how Liverpool have only conceded one penalty all season”

At the end of it all, Arsenal will be frustrated but feel as though they can only control the things in their control.

Refereeing decisions are out of their hands, so they must find other ways to win games when the match turns against them.
