Arsenal have had a rare weekend off, with the side not featuring in FA Cup action after being knocked out by Manchester United in the third round.

While there was naturally some disappointment surrounding the way in which the Gunners crashed out of the competition, it has worked out for Mikel Arteta regardless.

In place of a match, Arsenal have made the trip to Dubai, taking on some warm-weather training and some much-needed time away from match action.

Though the Gunners haven’t been in action, there has still been plenty of football surrounding those associated with the club.

That includes a return to action for former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey, who is still featuring at Cardiff City.

Ex-Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsey winds up Stoke City fans after Cardiff win

Since leaving Arsenal, Ramsey’s career has managed to go full circle, making a return to Cardiff City.

While injury issues have had him in and out of the side, the midfielder has still managed to show plenty of quality when he has made it onto the pitch.

That happened again over the weekend as Ramsey returned to the side, helping the Bluebirds edge through the fourth round on penalties over Stoke City.

The old foes harbour some far-from-pleasing memories for the Welsh international, having been the place where he suffered a leg break early in his career.

In bizarre fashion, the Stoke fans booed the midfielder, but it was Ramsey who got the last laugh after the match.

Arsenal supporters showed their love on social media, with one fan simply stating: “Love it,” while another added: “Rambo.”

The praise continued, with: “What a boy!” and “Mr FA Cup.”

In all, it proved to be much more of a happy return for Ramsey to Stoke, with a little bit of winding up thrown into the mix.

Aaron Ramsey on leg break injury for Arsenal vs Stoke

One of the huge setbacks Ramsey faced in his Arsenal career was suffering a leg break in a match against Stoke City in 2010.

Potters’ centre-back Ryan Shawcross went crashing into the midfielder with a late challenge, causing the horrific injury.

It took eight months for Ramsey to return to action, though he eventually got to his best and cemented himself as an Arsenal icon.

Speaking in 2024, the midfielder opened up about the injury on Sky Sports, stating: “I think it was a massive setback, I think the way I was going at that moment in time I was in the team, I was playing regularly and feeling good and really sort of asserting myself at that level.

“And then the injury happened and then all kinds of things go through your mind then at that point when it’s happened.

“Are you gonna play again? Are you gonna walk again? It wasn’t a nice time but I did have some really good people around me at the time and having a lot of messages from people who had suffered similar injuries and stuff like that.”
