Arsenal fans now all say the same thing about £45m star after ‘shameful’ display

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus produced a nightmare display in front of goal against West Ham United on Thursday evening. 

Arsenal fell to a 2-0 defeat against the Hammers at the Emirates Stadium, but it could have been a very different story had Gabriel Jesus been able to find his goalscoring touch. 

The Brazilian striker had two very presentable opportunities in the second half. Both were headers. The first he could only direct straight at West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. The second was an even clearer chance. The 26-year-old was unmarked at the far post, with the goalkeeper caught caught out of position. However, Jesus got under the ball and directed it over the bar.

This is not the first time that Jesus has been wasteful in front of goal. It has already been questioned if the striker is prolific enough to fire Mikel Arteta’s side to a Premier League title. Certainly, his record of just 3 goals from 14 Premier League outings so far this season suggests that he isn’t.

The £45 million former Manchester City man has previously admitted that goalscoring is not one of his strengths. It is also no secret that the Gunners are on the lookout for a new striker in the transfer market, with several candidates thought to be under consideration. 

Arsenal fans call for Mikel Arteta to find upgrade on Gabriel Jesus

If Arteta needed any more convincing that he needs a more clinical and efficient presence leading the line, then this performance from Jesus against West Ham may well have provided it. 

Certainly, plenty of Arsenal fans have lost patience with Jesus. Taking to X, one supporter said Arsenal are “Never winning any titles if this guy is going to be our main striker.” Reflecting on the chances Jesus passed up against West Ham, one fan chipped in with, “I’m one of Gabriel Jesus’ biggest fans, but he can’t be missing sitters like that. Shameful.”

Looking ahead to the transfer window, one supporter insisted that “We need a striker more than any position in January. A different profile than Jesus, we got no plan B in attack.” Another fan agreed, stating, “Really lacked cutting edge again today. We have to get a real striker!”
