Arsenal have now been warned that Gabriel Jesus is not prolific enough to fire them to a Premier League title triumph.
Arsenal paid £45 million to prise Gabriel Jesus away from Manchester City in the summer of 2022.
The Brazilian striker quickly impressed at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta was blown away by the impact the 26-year-old had at the north London club.
Arteta has even said that Jesus “changed our world,” as quoted by BBC Sport.
The 63-cap Brazil international is certainly an exciting player to watch. He brings flair and dynamism to the Gunners’ attacking play. On top of that, he knows what it takes to win major honours. Jesus won four Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
However, there is a flaw in Jesus’ game. The £265,000-a-week star is not the most reliable finisher. In 44 appearances for Arsenal, across all competitions, Jesus has netted just 15 goals.
He does improve the play of those around him, hold up the ball effectively, and treat chances for teammates – as evidenced by his nine assists – but he still ought to be more clinical.

Arsenal need more than Gabriel Jesus can offer
Journalist Paul Brown certainly believes that Arsenal will have wanted more from Jesus in font of goal. As quoted by GiveMeSport, he said, “I think Arsenal thought they were getting a top-level centre forward in Jesus. It hasn’t really worked out for various reasons. He’s had some injuries but when he’s played, he probably hasn’t scored at the kind of rate that they wanted him to.”
“So bearing that in mind, I think if Arsenal really want to win the league they’re going to need to find someone who can score who can be relied on to score around 20 to 25 goals a season really at least.”
“That’s not easy to do, Jesus is capable of doing it, but he doesn’t look likely to do it for Arsenal right now.”
Arsenal being linked by The Mirror with a January move for Ivan Toney – who bagged twenty Premier League goals last season – suggests that Arteta does indeed believe that his squad needs a more clinical striker.
However, this brutal assessment of what Jesus brings to Arsenal does him a disservice. Injuries have severely impacted Jesus’ Arsenal career so far. What’s more, the former Manchester City man does so much work in deeper areas of the pitch that he often starts moves that lead to one of his teammates scoring.
That being said, to get to that next level and win a Premier League title, it is becoming increasingly clear that Arsenal require more firepower than Jesus can provide.
