Declan Rice was the hero for Arsenal once again on Tuesday evening.
For the second time already in his short Arsenal career so far, Declan Rice scored a late winner for the Gunners.
His strike against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday evening was perhaps even the more dramatic of his two late goals.
Earlier on this season, Rice sealed a win with a 96th minute goal against Manchester United. However, on that occasion, there was still time for Gabriel Jesus to add another and make the score 3-1 before the final whistle.
On Tuesday night, though, in the 97th minute, Rice scored with what was quite literally the final touch of the match to make the score 4-3 in favour of the north London club.
It was a fitting, albeit heartbreaking from a Luton perspective, end to what had been a helter skelter encounter between the promoted side and the title chasers. Mikel Arteta will know that his side got away with one, as David Raya’s mistakes between the sticks put Arsenal in a very difficult position.
The Gunners deserve great credit for their persistence and determination to keep pushing for a winner right to the death. Luton also ought to be applauded for their monumental effort against the odds in this match.

Declan Rice proves his worth to Arsenal again
It is Rice, above all though, who deserves the plaudits this morning. Journalist Sam Dean certainly gave the 24-year-old midfielder his approval, stating on X that “Arsenal did not pay £105 million for Declan Rice so he could score last-minute winners. But the lad is so big-time that he’s done it twice already. Ridiculous player. Seems capable of winning games through sheer force of personality.”
Arsenal did indeed pay a club-record fee of £105 million to prise Rice away from West Ham United in the recent summer transfer window. The Emirates Stadium faithful felt, even prior to this game against Luton, that the England man is living up to his price tag. He paid another chunk of it back at Kenilworth Road.
As well as being a supremely talented player, Rice is a massive personality on the pitch. His all-action style of play livens up the crowd and drags his teammates up the field. Arteta has previously hailed his leadership skills and winning mentality. Those qualities were on full display against Luton.
Arsenal now need to carry this momentum into this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa, which will be another huge test for the title hopefuls.
