Arsenal fans say £120k-a-week ace is ‘most underrated player’ at the club

Many Arsenal fans believe that Ben White has to be considered the most underrated player at the club.

Ben White has been a key player for Arsenal since his arrival from Brighton in a £50 million deal in the summer of 2021.

In his first season at the Emirates Stadium, White played as a centre-back, forming a solid partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes. However, the emergence of William Saliba saw Mikel Arteta shift White to right-back, where he has since flourished.

The 26-year-old is always reliable defensively and has improved his attacking game markedly over the course of his time as a full-back. Having formed an effective partnership further up the pitch with winger Bukayo Saka, White remains a vital player for the north London club and is one of their most consistent performers.

To have adjusted and adapted to a new role is impressive. The fact that White has taken on the position with such a minimal amount of fuss means he perhaps doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

Plenty of Arsenal fans believe that more praise should be lavished on the £120,000-a-week ace.

Is Ben White underrated at Arsenal?

One fan took to Twitter to say, “from an Arsenal fan’s perspective the most underrated player has got to be Ben White. Even within the fan base he doesn’t get the respect he deserves. He slotted in seamlessly at RB at the start of last season and has been very consistent for us since then.”

Another supporter agreed with this view, stating, “You’ve nailed it, it’s 100% Ben White. I don’t think I’d swap him for any RB in the PL. Defensively solid and a threat going forward. Hope he gets the respect he deserves one day.” This fan wasn’t the only one to say “I wouldn’t swap him for any Right Back” either.

Another fan praised White’s reliability and consistency by comparing him with a couple of well-regarded former Arsenal full-backs, saying the four-cap England international is “similar to how fans viewed Sagna and Monreal, always 7-8/10 performances, go under the radar at FB.”

There has been talk of White being offered a new contract at Arsenal. Always available, always reliable, the player certainly deserves fresh terms, and probably more of a share of the limelight and plaudits than he currently gets.

Arteta will certainly appreciate what White brings to his team, and there is no reason to think that, despite having arrived as a centre-back, that the player won’t be the first choice Arsenal right-back for many years to come.
