Arsenal will have been watching on intently as Liverpool suffered a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in a crushing blow to their Premier League title hopes.

Manchester City looked far too strong for Arne Slot’s team, as goals from Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku secured the win.

Heading into the international break, Mikel Arteta’s side now leads City by four and Liverpool by eight, which is quite a gap to make up.

Following the game at the Etihad Stadium, Danny Murphy has made an interesting prediction about Liverpool that Arsenal fans will love to hear.

Danny Murphy thinks Liverpool could be out of the title race

Danny Murphy believes that Liverpool could now be out of the Premier League title race following their performance against Man City.

The former Liverpool man doesn’t think the Reds can be discounted points-wise just yet; however, their performance suggests they won’t make up the ground.

Asked whether Liverpool are now out of the title race, Murphy told BBC Match of the Day: “Not from a points tally, but from a performance stance, yes.

“They’re not playing well enough, they don’t look like they’re playing well enough to make up the gap. Unfortunately, away from home, they’re too easy to play against, they’re too wide open and making too many mistakes.”

Speaking after the defeat, Slot admitted Liverpool face an uphill battle to fight their way back into the Premier League title hunt.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has warned Arsenal about City, and he thinks the Gunners will be worried about Pep Guardiola’s team.

“Yeah, I think City’s performances over the past few weeks have been great, so I think Arsenal will be nervous because City are coming up behind them,” added Rooney.

“It’s happened over the last few years to Arsenal, so with City and Pep Guardiola behind you, I think Arsenal will be nervous with Arsenal in-form.”

Gary Neville thinks Liverpool could still challenge Arsenal

Elsewhere, Gary Neville disagrees that Liverpool are out of the title race just yet and is still backing them to push Arsenal this season.

The former Manchester United defender is confident that players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohammed Salah will help them to squeeze their way back in.

“I’m gonna say yes (Liverpool can be in the title race) just because I think that if it clicked, something could happen. And they’ve got basically firecrackers in that dressing room. They’ve got world-class players and they’ve got big characters,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“You know, Alisson, Van Dijk, and Salah are huge characters. You know, they’re Premier League greats. So, if they can just pull it together with the manager who’s obviously had a great first season, and the young ones can start to gain some confidence.”

On the Gunners, Neville predicted Arsenal would draw with Sunderland, but must now accept that these results can happen in the Premier League.
