Arsenal fans won’t like what Brazil had Gabriel Magalhaes doing one day before his injury vs Senegal

Arsenal have suffered a key injury scare ahead of the North London derby as Gabriel Magalhaes was forced off during Brazil’s win over Senegal.

Gabriel looks to have suffered a groin injury and is now a major doubt for the Gunners’ clash against Tottenham next weekend.

The Brazilian defender went down just after the hour mark and limped off clutching his groin as Brazil defeated Senegal 2-0.

Mikel Arteta will now need to start planning for the North London derby without one of his best players, but he won’t be best pleased with what Brazil had him doing on Friday.

Gabriel Magalhaes warmed up separately from the Brazilian team

Gabriel Magalhaes warmed up separately from the Brazilian team at the Emirates Stadium in the build-up to their game against Senegal, according to Brazilian journalist Natalie Gedra.

This season, Gabriel has been one of the best defenders on the planet, so to lose him to injury is a massive blow for the Gunners.

But that’s also seen him play a high volume of football, and the Brazil team were keen to manage his load in the build-up to the friendly.

Speaking about the situation, Gedra told Sky Sports News: “After the hour mark here at the Emirates, Gabriel Magalhaes felt a muscle injury, so he had to be subbed. As soon as he felt something, he signed to the bench to be subbed and went straight to the dressing room.

“So we don’t have any more updates on his injury, but it didn’t look good. So he was limping, and we will wait for more updates from the Brazilian camp.

“What we do know is that yesterday (Friday), when Brazil were doing their final session here at the Emirates before the game, Gabriel did his warm-up separately from the group because they were trying to manage his load.

“This is because he’s played a lot of minutes this season, so we will wait for more updates on Gabriel, but it doesn’t look good.”

Arteta must now decide how to replace the 27-year-old, but fortunately, he is blessed with options in central defence.

Jurrien Timber, Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie are all options the Spanish manager could use against Spurs next Sunday.

Carlo Ancelotti apologises for Gabriel Magalhaes’ injury

Brazilian coach Carlo Ancelotti has apologised for the injury to Gabriel and wished him well in his recovery.

He also added that the Brazilian medical team will assess him on Sunday to find out more about the issue.

“I don’t know about the problem, the medical staff has to check tomorrow, we are really sorry for this and really disappointed.

“When a player has an injury, I hope they can recover well and soon.”
