Arsenal are searching for a sporting director to replace Edu Gaspar after the Brazilian departed last week, and several names have been linked.

Edu’s time at Arsenal saw him help Mikel Arteta rebuild the Arsenal squad into a title-challenging one over five years, and the club will hope to replace him in the best possible way.

Real Sociedad director Roberto Olabe has now announced his decision to step down at the end of the season, and Arsenal have been mooted as a possible destination.

However, an alternative option has now emerged, and it is a very exciting one indeed, as Arsenal believe he is the perfect successor to Edu.

Arsenal identify Monaco director Thiago Scuro as Edu Gaspar replacement

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now reported that Arsenal have identified AS Monaco director Thiago Scuro as an ideal replacement for Edu.

Scuro is just 43, but is highly regarded in his role, and already has plenty of experience under his belt. He has previously worked for Brazilian sides Cruzeiro, RB Brasil and Bragantino, before joining Monaco in 2023.

He has helped revolutionise Monaco with smart recruitment after some heavy sales, and the Ligue 1 side are performing well domestically and in Europe.

Why Arsenal admire Thiago Scuro

It is claimed within the report that Arsenal are admirers of Scuro’s young profile as a successor to Edu, and his work so far has been impressive.

Scuro is seen as a tough negotiator, having sold players such as former Arsenal target Youssouf Fofana, as well as Chelsea defender Axel Disasi for high fees.

Selling well was a weak point of Arsenal’s transfer business under Edu, and it now seems that Scuro is admired for his previous work, as well as the potential to add revolutionary ideas and a fierce negotiator to the club executive.

Edu’s early work at Arsenal saw the former midfielder sign a lot of young players, and Scuro did the same with Monaco, with Folarin Balogun one of several signings under 27 to have been signed by the Brazilian.

Scuro clearly fits with Arsenal’s vision, and could provide a big character to work alongside Arteta to build a squad to take the club to the next level.
